Mixed Media And Gems
On Mixed Media Paper
8" x 10" / each
Back in the Fall of 2015 I was invited to take part in a special exhibition "Art Maze" being held at the historic Oxo Tower Wharf in London, England. I had exhibited in London twice before but this time would be very different. The curator Exhibit Here required all Artists to be present in order to install their work in the gallery. After seeing pictures of the unique venue I KNEW I had to make it to this one in person. With my passport quickly renewed and some money freed up on my loan I was soon purchasing flight tickets for a trip of a lifetime! Seeing as the trip was going to be rather costly for a humble full time artist I knew I had to take full advantage of the experience and create a series specially for this show. I put out a call for UK based beauties, seeing as the exhibit would be in London it seemed right to celebrate the women living in that country, and I was surprised to receive many submissions. Originally I only planned to create six new pieces but these eight women really inspired me so I took on much more than I could chew. Luckily with early mornings, long nights, and full work weekends I was able to finish the series just in the nick of time, the day before my flight to London!
Using watercolour paint, pastels, pencil, acrylic paint, and real acrylic gems and gold/pearl mica, I hoped to celebrate each unique women's beauty by staying true to their facial features while at the same time giving each women the opportunity to feel incredibly glamorous! We are so often bombarded with glorious images of stars, models, and royalty but are rarely given the chance to feel like we're among them. I wanted these women to feel like stars, to feel like royalty, for at least one night during the Private Viewing or whenever they look at the portrait. Because in my eyes they are all just as beautiful and glorious and the women we see in the media.

Oil And Acrylic Paint on Canvas
16" x 20"
This beautiful Eye Artwork was created as part of a Live Painting project done during a Nuit Blanche exhibition. I am eternally grateful to my stunning local muse Chelsea Collinson who offered her beautiful blue eyes to be painted and attended the event in order to allow me to paint her eyes live. Prior to the event I decided on a soft peach, light purple, and bright yellow/green for the drips. I felt the first two would bring out the warmth in her eyes and makeup while the last would strike contrast against them and really make the blue pop! Using many layers over a week the eyes were built up and during the live painting demo the iris' were brought to life and lashes were added in. When I brought the piece back to my studio I felt the lashes needed even more emphasis so they were elongated and made fuller. I really do believe the piece captures the shape of Chelsea's eyes and her character and I am thrilled with the results of this artwork.

Acrylic Paint and
Embellishments on Canvas
16" x 20"
This piece was created in order to celebrate the beauty of Indian Brides. In order to make the piece striking and unique I applied a gold mehndi inspired trim on the veil, gold and pearl mica, and real acrylic gems. But what truly makes this piece mesmerizing is the brides multicoloured eyes which seem to pierce the viewer. This culture and its people are truly beautiful and it is an honour to capture them in paint.

COMMISSION
This beautiful large scale portrait of a stunning Indian Bride was created as a custom request for my local clients. They had an image in mind for the clothing, jewelry, and hair but wanted the face to somewhat resemble that of the wife of the couple. Using references from her own wedding, I altered the facial features ever so slightly to reflect her unique beauty. I am absolutely thrilled with the results which I feel are soft, sparkly, and striking.

COLOURING CONTEST
May 2015
Pen on Paper
8.5" x 11"
Throughout the month of May I held a colouring contest! I provided this line drawing and anyone was free to alter it however they wished in order to make it their own. I am absolutely overwhelmed with all of the beautiful and varied enties I received! THANK YOU so much to everyone who took part! It makes me very emotional seeing how many of you took the time to do a collaborative piece with me. So glad you enjoyed it and I will be sure to do another again in the future!

TRUE BEAUTY
This series began in July when I woke suddenly with a beautiful idea for a whole new body of work. I wanted to portray a diverse group of “everyday” women. Who is an “everyday” woman? A mother, teacher, hair stylist, artist, photographer, office worker, athlete, sister, pet owner, home maker, lab worker, nurse, model, student; absolutely EVERY woman is an “everyday” woman. I wanted to show that not only those who fit into the media’s version of ultimate beauty were beautiful. You don’t have to be thin, you don’t have to be blond, you don’t have to be 20; you just have to be you! Despite what the media tells us, all women; regardless of age, size, ethnicity, or personal style; are beautiful in their own unique way. With this concept in mind I put out a call for untouched photos (not professionally edited) to anyone who wanted to take part. The response was overwhelming. The names of those who submitted were drawn at random and soon my collection of 16 gorgeous Canadian women from all walks of life began to take shape. Using untouched photos of these ladies I captured their natural beauty using bright colours, symbolic iconic imagery, and an emphasis on each woman’s unique facial features. I hope this series expresses the beauty of all women and in so doing allow any woman viewing the series to see the beauty in herself.
